How to Take Your Measurements

Use a soft measuring tape. Stand straight, relax your body, and measure against bare skin or thin clothing for the most accurate results.

  • 1Bust/Chest: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, keeping it level across your back.
  • 2Waist: Measure at the narrowest point of your torso, usually just above your belly button. Don't suck in.
  • 3Hips: Measure around the widest part of your hips and buttocks, keeping the tape level.

Why It Matters

Your body shape is determined by the proportions of your bust, waist, and hips — not your weight or size. Two people at the same weight can have completely different shapes.

Understanding your shape can help with finding clothes that fit well, and it also offers health insights. For example, an Apple shape may indicate more visceral fat around organs, which is linked to higher health risks than fat carried in the hips and thighs (Pear shape).

Shape Guide

  • Hourglass: Bust and hips are balanced with a defined waist.
  • Pear: Hips wider than bust. Weight carried in lower body.
  • Apple: Wider midsection relative to bust and hips.
  • Rectangle: Bust, waist, and hips are about the same width.
  • Inverted Triangle: Shoulders and bust are broader than hips.
